As most of my friends know (because they are sick and tired of hearing me talk about it), I have been on Ben 10 mode for the past month or so. In about two weeks, I watched all 3 seasons of Ben 10: Alien Force, the live-action Ben 10: Alien Swarm movie and the first nine episodes of Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. Why only nine? Because the rest of the episodes haven’t been released yet. Rassum frassum.
Basic premise is, 10-year-old Ben Tennyson is on a summer camping trip with his grandfather, Max and his cousin, Gwen. One day, he finds an alien pod and inside it, the omnitrix — a watch-looking device which lets him transform into a variety of aliens. He starts fighting invading aliens and saving the world and shit after that.
It was never the kind of cartoon I watched religiously. I never knew what time it it aired on Cartoon Network, but I’d stop what I was doing to watch it whenever I caught it on. I found Ben as a kid really annoying which is why I didn’t think much of it at first, but that completely changed when I started watching Alien Force, the sequel that takes place 5 years after the end of the first series.
The show reminds me a lot of The Adventures of Jonny Quest, which I love, love, loved growing up. It’s got a fantastic story and the characters are likeable –their strong point being their relationships with one another. There’s a strong sense of family (again, much like Jonny Quest) and I love how Ben’s this big grampa’s boy and Gwen has Kevin totally whipped. And I love Kevin haha. Best character ever.
|I SEE WHAT U DID THAR GUISE!
My very tiny nitpick would have to be the way the plot is presented each episode. While there is a continuing storyline throughout the whole season, each episode can pretty much stand alone. The downside of that being, there’s this great buildup to each episode’s climax, and a resolution feels rushed almost everytime.
Other than that, I have nothing to complain about. If you haven’t yet, watch it! It’s a cartoon that has a Princess Bride reference! What’s not to like? XD
